The Apostle Peter once wrote that some of Paul's material was difficult to understand (2 Pet. 3:16). This is not an understatement! In fact, the Bible is full of statements that can make us scratch our heads and shrug our shoulders.

These books specialize in addressing biblical passages that seem to be contradictory or difficult to understand. And by specifically addressing the perplexing things we find in Scripture, they generally give wonderful cultural insights into what was being said.

However, because they function as commentaries, they are susceptible to the same limitations and biases.
